Juniors will start the week of Oct 22nd, 2023 and finish up the week of March 24th, 2024.
Since 1999, the Duluth Curling Club has a very active Junior program. We have three goals:
- Introducing young people to curling as a recreational winter sport
- Providing a venue for organized games between young curlers
- Developing the skills of existing young curlers who want to try for competitive excellence
Curling is a sport in which size, gender, strength, and speed are of no particular advantage. The helpful skills are balance, mental focus, and “touch”. In general, girls compete on an equal footing with boys. Curling is also a very civilized game with a strong tradition of etiquette, consideration, and courtesy towards your opponents. Curling is a great way to meet people and make friends, while learning a sport you can play for a lifetime.
- The Junior Program has two sessions available. Tuesdays from 4-5:30 or Sundays from 3-4:30. Juniors sign up for one session. If spots remain, they may sign up for an additional session.
- Sunday is open to juniors aged 8 to 21 (under 7 allowed with parent joining the on ice), Tuesday is open to juniors aged 9-21.
- Our season runs from late October – March.
- Fee is $120 per curler. The fee covers use of all the necessary equipment and facilities, instructors, ice-time, and entry fee for the Elizabeth Busche Memorial Junior Bonspiel - one of North America’s premier junior curling events.
- Decc parking passes are available for purchase from the DCC office.
- Junior curlers who wish to play on additional league teams will need junior director approval and pay a league fee of $75. For all junior members, the ice at the DCC is open for practice and pick-up games, any time that organized play or maintenance is not in progress.
- Junior Curlers, ages 10 and under, are required to have a parent (or other adult-arranged by the parent) present at the ice level during Junior Curling. The adult can be either on the ice or warm side of the glass.
- Parents of Junior curlers under the age of 16 are encouraged to remain at the club during Junior Curling.
Weather Cancellations: If Duluth schools are not in session for any reason, there will be no junior curling.
The Junior Development Program
In the past, DCC Junior teams have won state, national, and world titles.
DCC provides extensive support for its youth teams. Anyone willing to put in the long-term time, sacrifice, and effort to compete at their very best level is welcome in our Development program.
